Although the application is on a website, it is necessary to have a secure connection to access it. However, the sudden nature of the pandemic did not allow all users wishing to access training from home to have the necessary equipment. Obviously, it was out of the question to prevent them from taking the training, especially because the decision to participate online or in person could change overnight. As a result, we had to be creative in order to manage training sessions with people in face-to-face and people online with or without secure access. How to do ?

Where to start

We (ISLEAN and our client) started by scheduling fixed dates for purely online training with or without equipment and other dates where the hybrid format (face-to-face / online) could take place. All users had to connect to the videoconferencing tool used by the customer (accessible without a secure connection) regardless of whether the user was in the room or online (unless there was no user online). In fact, face-to-face users had to connect to the tool so that we could present the training support as well as the operations on the application.


the videoconferencing tool did not allow participants to be seen online when sharing the screen, which made it difficult to see participants’ reactions and understand where to spend a little more time. When there are face-to-face people, communication can sometimes be uneven between the two groups of participants. Never hesitate to mention from

After logging in, we asked the participants’ expectations for the training. Classic . Then we would ask them to interrupt us as much as necessary. It may seem obvious and almost routine. Yes and if we add the sound quality to that, you will understand the reason for my insistence on asking the participants to interrupt me even if I spoke softly and vocalized as much as possible. TIP: Never hesitate to mention from the start the elements to pay attention to in the course of the training. I reassure you that it can even help you to capture the attention of your interlocutors.

Taking online training is not easy because there are ten thousand different ways to lose focus. To compensate for this, during the explanations and manipulations, I purposely made mistakes to check if they were all with me. I often did. Of course you have to do it after having explained and practiced… for example after 30 minutes. Wow what a novelty! Well, personally I don’t like to talk in a vacuum at all. If I felt there was too much silence in the room or that no one was speaking online, I would ask participants “all over the place” questions to make sure they understood key details! And in order to involve all the participants as much as possible, I asked the questions sometimes to the public and sometimes to someone directly.
