By serving as luggage storage for travelers, they not only monetize their available space, but also generate more traffic at home. So I was stuck in the city with my luggage, without being able to do much.
This is where the idea of a luggage storage service germinated in my mind. I analyzed the luggage storage market in the United States: they have been removed from the station. In France, out of the 3300 stations in the country, only 8 had lockers. So there was everything to do. At first, it was about storing customers’ luggage at private homes. But the problem linked to the lack of fixed hours with these partners quickly became apparent.
How Did You Start The Project
The nanny had to validate the reservation. Since half of the reservations were made in the morning for the afternoon, many bookings were not validated, resulting in a significant loss of customers. This is what led us to opt two months later for partnerships with traders. What were the biggest challenges for Nannybag? The biggest difficulty was gaining the trust of users: initially, no one believed it for security reasons. For customers, this meant leaving their luggage with a stranger. For the nannies, this meant receiving luggage without knowing its contents. To remove these brakes, we provide customers with a security seal placed on
each piece of baggage to prevent the baggage from opening, and to uniquely identify each piece of baggage. Luggage is also insured up to € 1,500. We also ask travelers to provide identification to the nanny, who can perform a visual search of the baggage. project was also directly testable with the general public. What support did you receive at the start of the project? I had no support at the start, because it is impossible to claim support as long as there is no result. With my partner, we approached City Lab, an incubator specializing in digital tourism, but they refused our file, so we started working from an apartment. A year later, we presented ourselves again to City Lab and we were unanimous. We are still there. Nannybag today? In 4 years we have kept 1 million pieces of luggage, and we expect the same volume for the current year. We currently have 4,000 nannies in 300 cities and 30
countries and nearly 500,000 users. From New York, to Paris, via London, or even Rome, we are present in cities of varying sizes, as close as possible to stations, airports, monuments and all kinds of tourist points of interest. Our service is available at a rate of € 6 per piece of baggage per day, regardless of the size and weight of the baggage. We then share the profit with the nannies on a 50/50 basis. The consequences of development? For the year 2020 we are planning two major developments: we have just completed 2 million fundraising and the idea is to deploy our service in as many cities as possible.
