A manufacturer that does not tell the whole truth about QD in its TVs could face negative consequences for its reputation . However, a scheme that requires creating counterfeit films without QD would be expensive –
almost as expensive calling list as producing genuine films with QD.
This is likely because the TVs in question do use QD to improve color,
but also use cheaper phosphors to do most of the work . However, even this explanation raises questions about the validity of classifying these TVs as QLEDs.

While it is possible to say that products with a small amount of quantum dots “contain” them, it would be a mistake to say that these TVs are enhanced with quantum dot technology . Analysts I spoke with believe that quantum dot TVs, which use both quantum dots and phosphors, are more common among low-cost, low-margin TVs.
